Alpha Epsilon Pi (ΑΕΠ), commonly known as AEPi, is a college fraternity founded at New York University in 1913.
The fraternity is based on Jewish principles but is open to members regardless of faith who support its stated purpose and values. Research extracts describe it as having more than 150 active chapters across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Israel, with more than 110,000 members initiated.
In the University of Chicago case reported in the news context, a party at the local Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter house was the site of a reported sexual assault. The fraternity said that no AEPi members participated in or encouraged the alleged assault and that chapter members helped the woman and ended the party after being alerted.
