The amendment approved by Brazil’s Senate would reduce the maximum workweek from 44 hours to 40 hours without reducing salaries. It also provides for two rest days. Businesses would have 14 months to adopt the shorter workweek.
The measure was approved in two Senate votes, each by 75 votes to one. The government said more than 37 million workers could benefit. The news report said freelancers and delivery drivers working in the shadow economy would not be covered.
