The Channel Tunnel is a 50.46-kilometre railway tunnel beneath the English Channel, linking Folkestone in the United Kingdom with Coquelles in northern France. It opened in 1994 and is the only fixed link between Great Britain and mainland Europe.
The tunnel carries Eurostar passenger trains, freight trains and shuttle trains that transport road vehicles. The vehicle shuttle service was briefly suspended after a crash at the tunnel entrance in Coquelles, while Eurostar passenger trains and freight services were unaffected.
