Channel Tunnel shuttle train crash

A minibus struck the side of a vehicle shuttle train near the Channel Tunnel entrance at Coquelles, injuring 19 people and briefly disrupting shuttle services.

The Channel Tunnel shuttle train crash occurred at the vehicle-shuttle loading area near the tunnel entrance in Coquelles, near Calais, France. A minibus carrying truck drivers veered off course and struck the side of a train transporting vehicles through the tunnel.

Nineteen people were injured, all of them aboard the minibus. Two were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and 17 sustained minor injuries. The minibus driver was among those hurt.

Vehicle shuttle services were suspended for about 90 minutes before gradually resuming. Eurostar passenger trains and freight services were unaffected. French authorities said the cause was unclear and an investigation was underway. A local official said it was the first crash at the trains’ loading area.
