Dandong is a coastal prefecture-level city in southeastern Liaoning in northeastern China. It faces the North Korean city of Sinuiju across the Yalu River, which marks part of the China–North Korea border.
The city is a major Chinese border city and a route for significant trade with North Korea. The New Yalu River Bridge connects Dandong with Sinuiju. In the news report about the bridge’s opening, the older crossing on the route was described as handling more than 70% of official trade between the two countries.
