Allegations concerning Roman Abramovich

A BBC Panorama and Bureau of Investigative Journalism investigation reported that Deloitte Cyprus reviewed backdated documents relating to companies linked to Roman Abramovich. The reporting said Deloitte approved documents used to remove assets from a Cypriot company’s accounts and that correspondence showed Deloitte discussing changes to another company’s financial statements and accounting records.

Deloitte Cyprus said it could not comment on the specific allegations because the documents were more than 20 years old and no longer accessible. It also said it acts in compliance with applicable laws. Abramovich’s lawyers said he denies evading tax or concealing his fortune, and that he was not involved in the companies’ day-to-day operations.
