The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is a unionist political party in Northern Ireland. Founded in 1971 by Ian Paisley, it advocates maintaining Northern Ireland’s place in the United Kingdom and describes itself as defending Britishness and Ulster Protestant culture.
The party is generally described as right-wing and socially conservative. Jeffrey Donaldson led the DUP from 2021 until 2024, when he resigned following his arrest.
