Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American politician, businessman and media personality. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 and became the 47th president in 2025.

Trump is central to the news report because it describes his proposed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and his policy toward the conflict. The report says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Trump’s approach and warned that Ukraine would resume attacks on Russian energy infrastructure if Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy facilities.

Trump and Zelenskyy have had a contentious relationship. As the report notes, Trump was impeached by the U.S. House in 2019 over pressure on Zelenskyy related to military aid; the Senate acquitted him.
