ENAV

ENAV S.p.A. is an Italian government-controlled company that provides civil air navigation services in Italian airspace.

ENAV S.p.A. is an Italian government-controlled joint-stock company that operates as the exclusive supplier of civil air navigation services in Italian airspace. As an air navigation service provider (ANSP), it is responsible for air traffic control service (ATCS), flight information service (FIS), aeronautical information service (AIS), and issuing weather forecasts for the airports and airspace under its responsibility.

The company name ENAV was the former name of the public agency, an acronym for “Ente Nazionale Assistenza al Volo”. In 2001, the agency ENAV was transformed into ENAV S.p.A., a company owned by the Italian Treasury.

ENAV is controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which holds 53.28% of the share capital, and is subject to the supervision of the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. It has been listed on the FTSE Italia Mid Cap Index of the Borsa Italiana since July 2016.

In September 2025, ENAV reported overnight problems with the data transmission network supporting air traffic control services nationwide. The company ruled out a cyberattack and used alternative data transmission systems to allow as many departures as possible while operating at 50% of overall air traffic capacity. The disruption caused delays at airports across Italy, including Rome’s Fiumicino airport and airports serving Milan and Bergamo.
