Gyanesh Kumar

An Indian former civil servant who serves as Chief Election Commissioner of India.

Gyanesh Kumar (born 27 January 1964) is a former Indian Administrative Service officer and the Chief Election Commissioner of India.

He has faced criticism over the Election Commission’s handling of voter-roll revisions. Opposition parties have alleged that voter rolls were manipulated to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party and have demanded Kumar’s resignation. The Election Commission and the BJP have rejected the allegations.

The Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision is an exercise to verify and update electoral rolls. The commission says it aims to remove ineligible or duplicate entries while ensuring eligible citizens are included.
