The Italian air traffic control data network outage was a disruption to the data-transmission network supporting air traffic control services across Italy. According to air navigation company ENAV, overnight problems led it to operate at 50% of overall air traffic capacity as traffic increased.
ENAV used alternative data-transmission systems and introduced measures to regulate flight flows. The disruption caused delays at airports including Rome Fiumicino and airports serving Milan and Bergamo. ENAV said it had ruled out a cyberattack, that flight operations remained safe, and that technicians were working to restore full operations.
