Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport is an international airport in Fiumicino, about 30 kilometres south of Rome. It serves Rome, its metropolitan area, Vatican City and the wider Lazio region, and is Italy’s busiest airport.
Opened in 1961, the airport is named after the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci. It is managed by Aeroporti di Roma and serves as a main hub for ITA Airways.
In the air traffic disruption described in the news, Fiumicino was among the Italian airports affected by delays as capacity in the country’s airspace was reduced.
