Let Alberta Decide is a pro-independence advocacy group associated with the movement for Alberta separation from Canada. The group supported a vote asking Albertans whether to remain a province or begin a legal process toward a future referendum on separation.
Keith Wilson, a co-chair of Let Alberta Decide, said the movement would continue even if voters rejected the proposal, arguing that supporters had already made separation a major political issue. The group’s activity was part of a broader Alberta separatism movement linked to grievances about federal power, energy policy, economic policy, and Western alienation.
The movement also drew participants connected to opposition to COVID-19 vaccine mandates and support for the 2022 trucker convoy; Wilson was a lead lawyer for that protest. Opponents of separation, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, warned that beginning the process could create years of economic uncertainty.
