Alberta separation vote
In the news context, Carney campaigned for Canadian unity as Alberta voters considered whether to instruct the provincial government to begin a legal process toward a future separation referendum. He urged Albertans to vote to remain in Canada and warned that separation could bring division and uncertainty. He also argued that Canada should become more economically resilient and less dependent on the United States.
