A pink ball is a cricket ball used in some matches to make the ball more visible in evening conditions. Pink balls have been used in day-night Test cricket, where they contrast with players’ white clothing and are intended to improve night-time visibility.
In 2026, the International Cricket Council amended Test playing conditions to allow teams to agree before a match to use a pink ball throughout when poor light is expected. The change does not provide for replacing a red ball with a pink one during a Test.
Some players have expressed concerns that the pink ball can be harder to see or may behave differently from a red ball. These concerns have contributed to debate over whether teams will choose to use it in Tests played partly in daylight.
