Starlink is a satellite internet network operated by Starlink Services, LLC, a telecommunications subsidiary of SpaceX. Its satellites in low Earth orbit communicate with user terminals and ground stations to connect users to terrestrial internet infrastructure. SpaceX began launching Starlink satellites in 2019.
Use in Ukraine
SpaceX activated Starlink service in Ukraine in February 2022, as the war damaged or degraded other communications networks. The service has been used by civilians, government agencies and the military. Ukrainian forces have used it for communications, drone operations and other battlefield tasks.
In October 2026, Ukrainian officials reported restrictions affecting military terminals, including a speed limit on terminals moving at high speed. Reports said the restrictions disrupted some combat missions. Starlink access has been an important communications resource for Ukraine, though analysts have said the military has developed other options and could adapt to reduced access over time.
