Supreme Court of India

India’s highest court and its highest appellate court for civil and criminal cases.

The Supreme Court of India is the country’s highest judicial authority. It hears appeals from lower courts and tribunals, and has original and advisory jurisdictions. It was established on 28 January 1950 and has operated from its building in New Delhi since 1958.

The court is central to the opposition’s planned legal challenge over alleged manipulation of voter rolls. In the news report, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said the Chief Justice had asked the group to file a petition, which it planned to do after its march. The allegations have been rejected by the Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
