Christine “Tina” Kotek is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. She became Oregon’s 39th governor in 2023, after winning the 2022 gubernatorial election.

Kotek served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2007 to 2022 and was speaker of the House from 2013 to 2022. She was the first openly lesbian woman elected speaker of a U.S. state house and is the third woman elected governor of Oregon.

After a shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, Kotek spoke at a briefing and expressed condolences to the families and community members affected. She also thanked the person who intervened to stop further loss of life.
