Truth Social is an American social media platform owned and operated by Trump Media & Technology Group. It launched in February 2022 after Donald Trump had been banned from several major social networks following the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The platform presents itself as a free-speech alternative to mainstream social networks and has attracted a primarily conservative and pro-Trump user base. It has been described as an alt-tech platform and as a competitor to services including Twitter, Parler, Gab, Bluesky and Mastodon.
Trump Media & Technology Group, the company that runs Truth Social, became publicly traded in March 2024 after merging with Digital World Acquisition Corp. The platform has also used infrastructure provided by Rumble.
In the news context, Katie Zacharia worked as a communications adviser for the company that runs Truth Social and monitored Donald Trump’s posts as part of her media work before becoming White House press secretary.
