The UH-60M is an improved utility variant of the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, a four-blade, twin-engine, medium-lift military helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. The Black Hawk was developed for the United States Army and entered service in 1979; the UH-60M is among the improved variants developed since.
The Black Hawk family has been used by U.S. armed forces and exported to several countries. In the news context, Canada had planned to acquire 16 UH-60M helicopters for its special forces, but paused the proposed purchase amid trade and diplomatic tensions with the United States. The aircraft were intended to replace the special forces’ use of the older CH-146 Griffon.
