The United Nations Security Council has adopted multiple resolutions concerning North Korea, including resolutions related to its nuclear and missile programs. Some of these resolutions imposed or strengthened sanctions.
One example is Resolution 1874, adopted unanimously on 12 June 2009 after North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test. Adopted under Chapter VII, Article 41 of the UN Charter, it imposed further economic and commercial sanctions and encouraged UN member states to search North Korean cargo.
