West Midlands Combined Authority

A strategic authority comprising the seven metropolitan borough councils of the West Midlands.

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is the combined authority for the West Midlands, England. It comprises the councils of Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Established in 2016, the WMCA has powers relating to transport, economic development and regeneration. Transport for West Midlands is an executive body of the authority.

The WMCA funded a two-week trial of AI-powered road-safety cameras in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, working with the police and fire service. The trial identified potential seatbelt and mobile-phone offences; no enforcement was planned as a result of the trial.
